The Harlem Globetrotters will be returning to Brighton as part of their Pushing the Limits World Tour.
The globetrotters originated in Chicago, Illinois in the 1920s as an exhibition basketball team for the Savoy Ballroom. As their popularity grew, they worked comedic routines into their performances and shot to fame on US TV throughout the 1950s. In the 1970s they were created into an animated TV series by Hanna-Barbera and received global recognition. Since then they have featured in cartoons such as ‘Scooby Doo’ and ‘The Simpsons’. They also made appearances in the Hollywood films such as ‘Little Nicky’ starring Adam Sandler and had a documentary made in 2005 called ‘The Harlem Globetrotters: The Team that Changed the World’, which featured their hardcore fans Samuel L. Jackson and Barack Obama.
Today the Harlem Globetrotters are known for touring the world with a hilarious, theatrical and wizardry take on basketball. They have gained a following from audiences of all generations through inspiring family friendly performances that include their fans in the show and captivate sports and comedy enthusiasts with trick shots, skilled ball handling and rim rattling dunks.
On the teams twitter page they explain; “We spread joy around the world through the game of basketball. Don’t miss us when we visit your city!”.
The event will take place on Saturday 29th February 2020 with a live performance at The Brighton Centre. There are a limited number of backstage passes available but as always the Globetrotters will take photos and sign autographs with fans after the show.
