Last week a new website become available to the public which allows you to create your own AI music.
It works by allowing you to put in a prompt about the song you want to create – this can be genre or subject matter. Although it will generate lyrics for you there is also an option in which the user can write their own lyrics and that will be made into a song. You can then publish your AI songs for other people to enjoy.
The website feels like one of the first of its kind; it will completely create a song that sounds like real vocals and instruments in a matter of minutes for free.
Despite not allowing you to make a song based on an existing artist, it is clear that you can create music very similar, even to the point where it sounds just like them.
Despite this impressive technology, it does beg the question of what will this mean for musicians in the future?
It could be seen that now its accessible to get whole tracks and vocals without a real person that spending money on talent would become unnecessary.
Will Brown, a young musician based in London said,” I find it really cool and crazy that AI is at this point already… it is scary though when you’re starting out in your career spending weeks or months on projects when AI can create something of that quality in minutes.”
“It does make me worried about future job opportunities and if this will even be a viable industry for independent artists in the future… I think it becomes a similar conversation to AI art as we know we can create similar pieces online, but there is no soul or passion behind it for people to connect to.”
It’s also started a conversation about how this will work in terms of copywrite and commercial purposes.
“For me, I think there needs to be legislation created now for this type of thing. From what I can see you can use your AI music as you please but then if someone else was to use it could you sue for copyright? I don’t know what the answer should be, but I do feel like the uncertainties need to be addressed.”
