Brighton & Hove is heading into September with another busy weekend of live music, comedy, family entertainment, markets and plenty of reasons to make a day or night of it. From Brighton Dome to the seafront, here’s our pick of what’s happening from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 September.
Friday: Brighton Psych Fest takes over the city
One of the weekend’s biggest musical events is Brighton Psych Fest, bringing Stereolab, Allah-Las, Anna Von Hausswolff and Gwenno to Brighton Dome’s Corn Exchange, alongside artists performing at venues across the city. At the Dome, Gwenno is scheduled for 4.15pm, followed by Anna Von Hausswolff, Allah-Las and Stereolab.
Over at Chalk, Macka B & The Roots Ragga Band headline a Friday night of reggae and dancehall, with Royal Dub Collective also on the bill. Doors open at 7pm.
For comedy, The Maydays: Confessions! is at Komedia, while Brighton’s comedy clubs offer plenty of options for anyone looking to start the weekend laughing.
Saturday: Comic Con, markets and live music
Saturday brings Brighton & Hove Comic Con to Brighton Dome, running through Sunday with comics, gaming, film and TV, cosplay, collectibles and guest appearances. Tickets are listed from £16 to £42.50.
For something more local and creative, Brighton’s Makers Market takes over Jubilee Square from 10.30am, while the Big Rock Pool Challenge offers a coastal BioBlitz at Ovingdean Beach.
Music fans have plenty to choose from, including The Molotovs at Chalk, Arab Strap at Resident and Showaddywaddy at Theatre Royal. Later, Komedia Comedy Club provides a Saturday night comedy option.
Sunday: Music, comedy and family entertainment
Sunday brings Jon Anderson & The Band Geeks to Brighton Dome, with the former Yes vocalist performing at 7.30pm. There is also Brighton Sundae, featuring a DJ set from Matthew Herbert at Patterns, and ten56. at Chalk.
Families can head to Theatre Royal for The Princess Proms, while comedy fans can catch Down the Hatch Comedy Club at Komedia in the evening.
Where to eat and drink
After a day exploring the city, Brighton has no shortage of places to settle in for dinner or drinks. For modern European food, Burnt Orange is a strong central option, while Embers offers a more intimate restaurant setting.
For a traditional Brighton pub stop, The Hole in The Wall is tucked away near the seafront, while The Brunswick provides a useful Hove option with live music.
