Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’ll be very aware of England’s remarkable performance in the 2018 Fifa World Cup – their best performance since 1990 in fact.
But, never a country to do things by halves, English football fans have taken the excitement of reaching the semi-finals, and run with it. Anyone who’s been anywhere near social media this weekend will have seen the videos circulating of all manner of outrageous celebrations, from flooding the streets and stopping traffic, to vandalizing cars, jumping off buses, and in one particularly awful incident, invading an IKEA store following Sweden’s defeat.
In light of this, we can imagine more than a few people may want to avoid the mania that is guaranteed to ensue on Wednesdays game, when England face Croatia for a place in Sunday’s final. So, we’ve compiled a list of the best places to still go out, but avoid football frenzy!

1. Shuffle Bar
Shuffle cocktail bar on London Road have decided to remain football-free, so head over there to enjoy one of their delicious cocktails whilst enjoying the heatwave in their outside area, blissfully unaware that one of the most important games in English football is currently taking place!
2. Brighton Marina Outdoor Cinema
The open air cinema on Brighton beach is a bit of a no-go for anyone wanting to avoid the football (see the video we shared over on Brighton Journal Facebook!), but the screen over at the Marina is just showing the tennis. Head over there and enjoy a glass of Pimms for a fair more relaxed atmosphere.
3. A walk up Devil’s Dyke
At this point, escaping the city entirely may be your only option…
4. The beach… but far away from the pier!
Like we said, anywhere near the pier is to be avoided if you want to relax on Wednesday evening, but take a leisurely stroll towards the Hove end of the beach, and we reckon you’d be safe to enjoy a seafront BBQ with just a distant cry of ‘It’s coming home’ to be heard.

5. A trip up the i360
Just a birds eye view of the drunk celebrations (or commiserations) is far better than being in the thick of it, no? Just be prepared for what’s coming the minute you’re back on the ground…
However, if you are looking forward to being in the thick of it and (hopefully) celebrating another storming performance from England, remember to stay safe and enjoy!
