A woman who was seen in the sea near Brighton Palace Pier in the early hours of the morning has sadly died, authorities have confirmed.
Emergency services, including HM Coastguard and Sussex Police, were called to the area around 3:00am following reports of a woman in the water.
In response, a coordinated rescue operation was launched involving a Coastguard helicopter, lifeboats from Brighton and Shoreham, and rescue teams from Newhaven and Shoreham.
The woman, believed to be in her 20s and from Lewes, was recovered from the water and taken to hospital. Despite efforts to save her, she was later pronounced dead.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said:
“Her next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. There are no suspicious circumstances, and the matter has been passed to the coroner.”
Brighton Lifeboat Station also expressed their condolences, stating:
“Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.”
