Seahaven Wildlife Rescue need residents’ help to relocate. Based just around the corner in Newhaven, Seahaven Wildlife Rescue provide crucial emergency aid to wildlife between Telscombe and East Dean.
The centre is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating injured wild birds and animals, with the aim to release animals back into the wild where possible. However, the charity is now facing closure if they are unable to find a new hospital facility in the local area.
Open every day of the year, Seahaven Wildlife Rescue relies on its generous volunteers and donations from the public to keep its doors open. The centre opened as an emergency rescue service back in 2012, and has rapidly grown from receiving 10 calls a month, to as much as 50 calls a day. Its telling of how crucial the centre is to the animal welfare of our surrounding South Downs.
Their hospital unit is now beyond repair, and the centre have to relocate this month to keep their emergency services running. Seaford Wildlife Rescue have recently published an online appeal to the public, asking for their help in finding a new hospital facility.
The appeal reads as follows:
Sadly, as of August we will no longer have our hospital premises, the unit we were renting is beyond repair and no longer safe to perform our work from.
Due to this, we no longer have anywhere suitable to rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife. We have been searching thoroughly over the last few weeks, but so far have drummed up no success.
This is an appeal to everyone, if you know of any suitable spaces or people to contact, please do let us know urgently. Ideally we need about 30 square metres, running water and electric.
It’s heartbreaking that we’re having to close our doors, we are a much needed and relied upon local wildlife charity, but without premises there is little we can do.
