If you’re looking for a unique holiday destination, why not try Tropical Islands? You can take a stroll along the beach, join an expedition in the rain forest and enjoy some first-class entertainment. Oh, don’t forget the fact that you’re in an airship hangar, on land previously owned by the Soviet Union. Did we forget to mention that?
Tropical Island is located in an air hangar on land that used to be owned by the Soviet Army. After the reunification of East Germany, it was agreed that it was to be returned to the Federal Government of Germany in 1992. The hangar was built to house an airship, but the airship it was designed to protect was never built. It was then sold to Malaysian company Tanjong, and it was then created into an indoor paradise. The hangar is one of the largest buildings on earth by volume, and is the world’s largest single hall without supporting pillars inside. Tropical Islands was opened in 2004 and is home to the biggest indoor rainforest in the world, and is open around the clock every day of the year. There is a water slide tower, a crazy golf course as well as an amazing variety of entertainment shows. Tropical Islands even has a number of themed areas which feature copies of traditional buildings from countries such as Borneo, Samoa, and Bali as well as a lagoon and a tropical sea which is designed to look like the waters of a coral island. Of course, don’t forget the Rainforest, which has around 50,000 plants and 600 different species. It’s essentially a mini universe, all located just 50km from Berlin in an old air craft hangar.
So, if you’re looking for something a bit different for a holiday this year, why not have a look at Tropical Island?
