The award winning 64-year-old author of much beloved books such as ‘Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging’ which was made into a feature-film, and ‘It’s OK, I’m Wearing Really Big Knickers’, has passed away.

Her passing was confirmed by her publisher Harper Collins with a tweet:  “It is with huge sadness that we can confirm the death of our much loved author and friend, Louise Rennison.”

Known for her own brand of irreverence for authority and multiple challenges to the reading norms of teenagers, she was frequently confronted by parents over the risqué content of her work despite her several awards.

Her well-crafted books would include a glossary at the back to illuminate the meaning of colourfully amusing words such as:

‘Apple Catchers – These are attractive huge pants. Pants that are big enough to collect a lot of apples in.

Corkie Harness – Something to hold the corkers pert and not too jiggly. A bra.

YAROOO! – Hurrah only spelt wrong.’

Twitter has met the news with a diverse slew of the late author’s best quotes, including golden nuggets like:

‘He who laughs last laughs the laughiest.’

‘I am soooo excited, I am over-excited. I’m hysterical, I may have to slap my own face in a minute at this rate.’

She wrote to make herself laugh, and to replicate authentic teenage experiences. She was resolute about including the pubescent fascination with boys and snogging, which made the reaction of shocked parents a surprise to the late authour.

She described Brighton as the ‘San Francisco of the South Coast. Which is sad as it is nothing like San Francisco, being mainly pebbles and large people in tiny swimming knickers who have gone bright red in the sun.’

Rennison, who attended Brighton University, chose to live in Brighton until her death. She will be hugely missed.
