The award-winning comedy Home, I’m Darling comes to Eastbourne from 7 – 11 March, with a cast including BAFTA award winner Jessica Ransom (Doc Martin, Armstrong and Miller, Horrible Histories) as Judy, Diane Keen (Doctors, The Cuckoo Waltz) as Sylvia and Neil McDermott (EastEnders, The Royal) as Johnny.
The cast is completed by Matthew Douglas (An Inspector Calls) as Marcus, Cassie Bradley (Coronation Street) as Fran and Shanez Pattni (Butterflies) as Alex.
A sparkling, thought-provoking comedy by Laura Wade (Posh/The Riot Club) it was a West End hit and received the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2019. The show premiered at Theatr Clwyd in 2018, before playing at the National Theatre prior to West End transfer.
Judy and her husband Johnny enjoy living in a sentimental nostalgic bubble, their decade of choice is the 1950’s, it’s all jive dancing on the weekends, swing skirts and starched collars. The chintzy living-room furniture, gingham curtains and retro kitchen appliances hark back to a wistful era of domestic bliss.
When Judy is made redundant, she can live out her fantasies of being the ultimate retro domestic goddess, but the rose-tinted-glasses view of living in the past can come in to painfully sharp-clear-focus when reality bites.
How happily married are the happily married? Every couple needs a little fantasy to keep their marriage sparkling. But behind the gingham curtains, things start to unravel, and being a domestic goddess is not as easy as it seems…
This thoughtful, darkly-funny play is one not to be missed. The production reunites the entire original creative team, led by Theatr Clwyd Artistic Director and Co-Director Designate of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Tamara Harvey. It is co-directed by Hannah Noone, with design by Olivier award-winner Anna Fleischle, lighting by Lucy Carter, sound design by Tom Gibbons and choreography by Charlotte Broom.
