This Thursday, you will be voting to elect the candidates that best represent your views as part of Brighton and Hove City Council. Are you ready?
Once elected, the fifty-four chosen councilors will work together to run the council (including its vision, direction and budget) for the next four years, so you need to make sure that you are happy with your decision.
Here’s what you need to know:
Know who you’re voting for
Brighton and Hove is divided into twenty-one areas and each area is called a ward. Each area is represented by two or three councilors, it depends on how many people live there. If you don’t know your candidates already, you can look them up here.
Polls are open 7 am – 10 pm
You have to go to your allocated polling station between these times. If you’re not sure where to go, check your poll card. Or check online using your postcode here.
How it works
When you arrive at your polling station, the staff there will ask you who you are and where you live, and then tick your name off a checklist. Once you have done this you will be able to vote.
Once you’ve received your ballot paper you simply mark your choice with a cross in the box to show which candidates you have selected, and then put your paper in the ballot box – it’s all very straight-forward!
What happens next
All of the votes are due to be counted on Friday 3rd of May. Results will be shared on the Brighton and City Council Social accounts, you can expect them around late afternoon. The elected councilors will begin on Tuesday the 8th of May, and the Full Council will be formed on the 22nd of May.
