These drop in sessions provide a welcoming, informal space to interact at the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery. The ‘behind the scenes’ labs provide a chance to meet staff and get an exclusive look at exhibits that usually aren’t on display. All ages are welcome to drop in at any time during opening hours and discover secret histories in a relaxed, friendly environment.

The museum uses this as a chance to bring their management work into a space accessible to the public. Artefacts that might usually be in storage are brought out to be observed, inspected, explored and documented. There is a heightened focus on the local history of Brighton, as well as archaeology and Brighton Museum’s Natural Science collections.

Brighton Museum’s Natural Science collections are considered to be of National importance and range from geology to animal life specimens. The earliest of these dates from 1854. The three most significant collections (kept at the Booth museum) are:

    • Edward Booth’s British bird collection.
    • The Brighton Museum collection, which include collections of worldwide insects.
    • The Frederick Lucas osteology (bone) collection.
