More than 270 people took part in a family-friendly ride through Hove on Sunday 26 April, calling for safer cycling and better everyday routes across the city.

The family-friendly ride, the sixth Kidical Mass event since 2023, aims to encourage more everyday journeys by bike and highlight the need for safer streets.

Riders set off from four locations—Hove Cemetery, Hove Park, Wish Park and Stoneham Park—before converging at the Peace Statue and continuing on a circular route through Hove.

Iliana Koutsou of Bricycles said: “With more investment in cycle lanes and safer crossings for people riding bicycles, we can encourage more people to travel by bicycle, improving people’s health and local air quality”

Duncan Blinkhorn from Brighton Bike Hub added “Although the A259 Hove seafront lane will be a welcome improvement when delivered, much of Hove is dominated by car traffic, making cycling challenging for people. Our city can be even better for cycling with continuing investment from the Council.”

The strong turnout reflects growing local demand for safer, more accessible cycling infrastructure in Brighton & Hove.

The ride was organised by local cycling groups including Bricycles, Brighton Bike Hub, Brighton Multicultural Women’s Cycle Club, Clean Air for Brighton & Hove, and the Old Shoreham Road (OSR) Bike Train. Organisers say they will continue to campaign for safer cycling and plan further rides throughout the year.
