Tracey Emin CBE and RA is a famous artist well known in the art industry for her confrontational and confessional artwork. However, she is now further dominating headlines due to being the newly wedded wife to a rock. Yes that’s right, Tracey Emin has married a rock.
The ceremony took place at her latest exhibition in Hong Kong and in regards to the marriage Tracey has commented ‘It just means that at the moment I am not alone; somewhere on a hill facing the sea, there is a very beautiful ancient stone, and it’s not going anywhere. It will be there, waiting for me.’ It’s a common phrase to acknowledge your partner as your rock but Tracey has taken this one step further. She admits that her rock is most definitely not a person but for Tracey it provides an ‘anchor’ and no, this isn’t because of its weight.
Tracey is not the only person to have ever fallen in love with an inanimate object. There have been many cases similar to this such as Erika Eiffel who is in love and “married” to the Eiffel Tower and Amanda Whittaker who is in love with the Statue of Liberty. Marrying a rock doesn’t seem so strange now does it?
If you too are interested in taking a leaf out of Tracey’s book then head to Brighton beach, there are plenty of rocks there!
