England’s largest arts festival welcomes everyone to take part from as little as £69.30

Brighton Fringe has today (12:00, 12 October 2020) opened event registration for artists to take part in  the 2022 festival, which will run from 6 May – 5 June. Everyone is invited to take part, with those  signing up before 26 November 2021 receiving a Super Early Bird discount of up to 30%. Registration  fees start from as little as £69.30, which is cheapest it’s ever been to take part in England’s largest arts  festival.

The tagline for this year’s Brighton Fringe is ‘Stay Curious’, which Julian Caddy, CEO of Brighton Fringe,  has explained: “Curiosity is what drives us to change, to break the mould, to see things in a different  way and to be an individual. Brighton Fringe is an open-access festival, enabling people of all  backgrounds and perspectives to put on and enjoy creative work. It is your platform and we are here to  support you, whether through the bursaries, advice or training that we provide. We also hope that both  the reduction and restructuring of our registration fees will help make it easier than ever for people  both to take part in and enjoy Brighton Fringe.”

Participants will be able to continue to present work both in person and digitally as part of the festival  to ensure wider access for audiences and artists. There will also be a number of bursaries, worth  £4000, on offer to support wider participation.

Brighton Fringe funders The Pebble Trust are offering three bursaries to support local young people,  and an International Touring Bursary to those ready to tour. Ironclad Creative are offering two  bursaries; the Michael Graney Bursary supports events with a sci-fi theme alongside a New Writing  bursary for writers on a low income. Brand new for this year is the Luke Rollason Memorial Bursary,  supporting comedians from groups typically underrepresented in comedy. There will also be bursaries  available from Brighton Pride and Encore Insure, the details of which will be confirmed this week.

All events, including those that win bursaries, will be listed on the Brighton Fringe website and the  official Brighton Fringe app, with tickets going on sale in three stages. The first events will be on sale  from 6 December, with a second release of tickets on 31 January and the final release of tickets on 1  March. The Brighton Fringe newsletter remains the best way to keep up with all the latest news about  the festival (sign up here).

In 2021, Brighton Fringe entertained more than 170,000 people with a programme of 630 events and 7216 performances taking place from 28 May – 11 July in 91 venues. There were 80,000 tickets sold to  a huge variety of events, including dazzling cabaret, ground-breaking theatre and unique tours.

According to the Brighton Fringe 2021 Audience Survey data, 91% of attendees agreed that Brighton  Fringe makes a positive contribution to Brighton’s image and 88% believe Brighton Fringe helps to  enhance the sense of community in Brighton. Our data also tells us that 93% of audiences felt Covid safe when attending Brighton Fringe 2021 events.

Brighton Fringe continues to champion accessibility and will spotlight events that are accessible to a range of  audiences with particular access needs, including those with visible and invisible disabilities, as well as  showcasing and supporting the work of D/deaf, disabled and neuro-diverse artists. We will also be  spotlighting work made by people of colour, participants with low income and those on the LGBTQIA+  spectrum.

There will also be a programme of FREE Fringe Academy workshops running from December, open to  everyone, on topics such as Funding, Arts Council Project Grants and Marketing for your event.
