Next month is Women’s History Month, and Brighton are playing host to the UK’s only festival celebrating women working in the digital industry. Of course we are, it’s because we’re awesome. SpringForward aims to encourage women to take a greater role in digital by creating a platform that promotes digital community events organised by women, for women.
Throughout the month of March there are loads of events that celebrate women in the technology industry. The festival will kick off with an interactive workshop run by the Sussex Innovation Centre which gives you an introduction to how to turn your start-up idea into a reality. It also gives you a chance to meet like-minded people and to collaborate and share skills in a supportive environment. On Mother’s Day weekend the Curiosity Hub are putting on a Mother & Daughter Creative Technology Workshop, a great opportunity for mothers and daughters to explore technology together. With things such as stop-motion animation and programming in Minecraft, it will be a great bonding experience!
Author Helen Comerford and Digital Producer Donna Comerford will be ‘explorign the world of Afterlife using Google Carboard virutual reality gogges & Ap. This is a unique opportunity to take part in the joining of two worlds, literary and digital.’ There will also be a Q&A where the question will be Women quotas in tech: A positive and crucial step, or a patronising premise? And will give you a chance to hear how technology has impacted women and is shaping the future. Mind the Code is something that is completely unique and sounds so much fun, if I could code and do yoga! Mind the Code is a day event where you will get to exercise your body and mind through coding and yoga. To finish off the festival Spring Forward are having a screening of the film ‘Code Girl’. Join high school-aged girls from around the world as they try to better their community through technology and collaboration in this thrilling, heartfelt documentary. You can find a preview of ‘Code Girl’ here. To find out more about the events going on next month for Spring Forward and to book tickets (some have already sold out) head to their website.
