Brighton, England, has been recognised as one of the globe’s most colourful destinations, securing a place among the top 25 worldwide and outshining many famous European rivals.

A groundbreaking study, commissioned by UK travel insurance provider Staysure, used advanced image processing software to create a “ChromaTravel Index,” ranking destinations on colour saturation, vibrancy, and hue variation. Brighton scored 58/100, placing it 19th globally and demonstrating that classic British seaside towns can compete with the world’s most visually striking locations.

BRIGHTON: A CANVAS OF COLOUR

Brighton is famed for its vibrant beach huts, colourful seafront, and lively pier. The seaside resort combines iconic architecture, creative street art, and a lively cultural scene, making it a visual feast for visitors. Its colourful spaces are not just photogenic—they enhance the experience of the town itself, drawing both residents and tourists into its energetic atmosphere.

“There’s something about stepping into a place full of colour that instantly lifts you. It changes how you feel, how you move through the space, and even how you connect with others. That’s why colour-filled destinations are becoming more popular,” explains colour psychology expert Karen Haller, who supported the research.

WHY BRIGHTON STANDS OUT

Unlike crowded European hotspots, Brighton offers vibrant scenery alongside accessible British charm. Its beach huts in bold reds, yellows, and blues, alongside the lively seafront, make it an appealing destination for travellers seeking both beauty and character in one visit.

Brighton proves that you don’t need to travel abroad to experience a destination with world-class colour appeal, offering a mix of iconic visuals, energetic culture, and seaside charm that leaves a lasting impression.
