Christmas Day is within touching distance, the fridges are crammed with festive food, colourful presents are wrapped under the tree and board games are ready to spark debate long into the night. However, when all crackers are pulled and presents are opened, it’s time to sit down in front of the television and enjoy some Christmas Day specials.
From cooking dinner to running around after excited children, Christmas Day can be strenuous at the best of times. So here are five opportunities to put your feet up, relax and enjoy some quality television on the big day itself:
Gogglesprogs:
If you’re a fan of Channel 4’s ‘Gogglebox’, you will love this one-off Christmas Day special, replacing the usual TV junkies that shout from their sofa, with ten sets of children who share their humorous opinions on some of 2015’s best television moments.

Soccer AM Christmas Special:
Helen Chamberlain and John Fendley will be presenting a festive special, with a number of footballing guests joining them on the famous Soccer AM sofa’s. The Christmas Day special will be rich in comical value, discussing all things football and looking ahead to the Boxing Day fixtures.

Strictly Come Dancing:
Former contestants will return for one evening, taking to the dancefloor to compete for the famous Silver Star trophy. Past winners such as Abbey Clancy and Harry Judd will partner professional dancers in a night of entertainment, reminiscing previous experiences on the popular BBC television show. A special video message from former presenter Bruce Forsyth will also light up the Christmas Day episode.

Doctor Who Christmas Special:
Returning to BBC screens for a Christmas Day special, fans of the show are in for a treat as Doctor Who plays out an hour-long episode packed with action and drama. The science-fiction programme has been screened for over 50 years and the latest instalment of festive fantasy is unlikely to disappoint.

Christmas Day Soaps:
If all else fails, the soaps are always a safe bet to fall back on. Whether it’s EastEnders, Coronation Street or Emmerdale, you’re guaranteed drama and excitement as storylines come to a close as months of anticipation finally arrive at an answer. Expect cliff-hangers, trauma and shock as it all heats up over the festive period.
