With some of the hottest days the country has witnessed this year so far, thousands have been flocking to the beaches, spending more time outdoors and booking national holidays across the country to enjoy the clear blue skies and soaring temperatures above 30 degrees. But is it only a matter of time before even more local restrictions are going to be put in place? By Nicola Wright
Within recent weeks we have witnessed Leicester, Manchester, Preston, Blackburn and now the latest weekly figures today show Oldham is on the verge of a second local lockdown due to recent confirmed spike in COVID- 19 cases, which has been confirmed in having the highest infection rate in the country with an increase of 255 cases up from 137 the previous week reported by council data.
It has been reported that the cause of the recent outbreak is due to household clusters which in tern “shows household spread is a real issue” Oldham council bosses advised. Which is inevitably leading the way to a potential second lockdown, with new rules now apply to the Oldham area the same as other areas who have had to impose local lockdown measures are for all living in the same households, will not be able to socialise with other households in their homes, gardens, pubs restaurants or bars until further guide from the council.
With the North being England’s largely affected areas at present, is it only a matter of time before it follows in the south?
Brighton sees thousands flocking to the beach over the weekend, which is not an unusual sight for this time of year in normal living circumstances. However given the recent events some people are still not abiding to the current guidelines, even with a red warning being put in place to advice people to stay away due to leading to a potential spike in coronavirus cases, the beach has still seen the crowds pour in.
Aleesha, a 22 year old Muslim Journalist who has worked with CNN international and gal-dem took to twitter slamming the images of Brighton beach at its highest capacity on the weekend of the 3rd of August, as she called it “Pathetic & Insulting” and expressed that due to recent events it has prevented her celebrating Eid- al- Adha with her grandparents in Bradford.
With the temperatures still set to sore with beautiful sunshine and clear blue skies, could Brighton be next to be leading to a second lockdown? There has been various rumours amongst the council and whther everyhting comes to fruition remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain , Brightonians will not be happy!
