Brighton & Hove City Council have launched a new video to help cyclists keep their bike safe and secure.
To keep your bike safe and secure, it’s advised that you use a high quality bike lock and cable, secure both wheels, and use an immovable object such as a cycle stand.
The short film shows the best ways of securing a bike to a cycle stand and highlights some of the best locks and chains on the market
It features Daniel Bianco, a transport planner at the city council and Lucy Dance from Sustrans, a national charity that works to make it easier for people to walk and cycle.
With more than 200 bikes reported as stolen in the city between March and August this year, Daniel and Lucy show how to use a bike cable and D-lock to secure your bike.
The video can be seen below:
Daniel said: “Cycling is becoming more and more popular, but some people aren’t always thinking about how to lock up their bikes properly. But if you follow how we show you to lock up your bike, there’s a good chance it will still be there when you return to it.”
The video comes as the annual Cycle September gets into gear. The month long event encourages everyone to get on their bikes and also sets up friendly competition between workplaces.
It doesn’t matter if people ride every day or haven’t been on a bike in years, everyone can take part for fun or compete against others.
