Bighton Dome will mark International Women’s Day 2017 with a series of performances and events, including stand-up comedian Bridget Christie’s take on Brexit.

The award-winning comic, newspaper columnist and writer will bring her new show to Brighton Dome following a sell-out run at Edinburgh Fringe.

In the wake of last year’s referendum result, the comedian ditched the show she was preparing to take to the festival and wrote a whole new one about Brexit, Because You Demanded It.

It has since been expanded and updated to include developments such as the growth of the “alt-right” and the election of Donald Trump.

Other events on the day include Australian-born writer and feminist movement Germaine Greer discussing ecofeminism in a special event for International Women’s Day, Women for Life on Earth: The Inevitability of Ecofeminism.

A live recording of Deborah Frances White’s hit comedy podcast The Guilty Feminist will also take place at the Old Courtroom, co-hosted by comedy writer Margaret Cabourn-Smith with special guest stand-up comedian Jen Brister.

Brighton Museum will host their annual celebration of International Women’s Day in partnership with Brighton Dome and Brighton Women’s Centre – what they describe as “a day-long marketplace of performance, art and debate.”

A spokesperson said: “Bursting with activities, with gender equality firmly on the agenda, join us for a marketplace of ideas alongside a specially curated programme of inspiring speakers, activists and innovators, workshops, arts & crafts, causes and campaigns, with fun for all the family.”
