Pullingers has been a staple in the North Laine shopping district for over thirty years and now the closure of its city centre store on Bond Street is marking the end of an era.
As one of Brighton’s longest established shops, the closure of this branch is certainly sad to see, but luckily their George Street store will remain open.
The George Street branch of Pullingers has been open for over 100 years. The store will see some changes of its own, however.
Mr Windham, who ran the Bond Street shop, has said that the flagship store will now only focus on repairing men’s shoes due to lack of space.
Pullingers launched over a hundred years ago in 1915 by Victor Pullinger whose son, Jim later took over. Jim was a friend of Mr Windham’s father, who eventually bought the business.
Mr Windham himself comes from a family of shoe repairers.
Offering a range of shoes as well as shoe repair and key cutting, the store in Bond Street would have served many people over its years.
