‘Tis the season, and in shopping centres everywhere a jolly Santa in a red suit with a large belly will be asking children what they want for Christmas and occasionally posting for the odd photo for the parents to put on Facebook, and it has been that way for many years. However, at the Yorkdale Mall in Toronto, Canada, shoppers will be treated to a Santa who looks slightly different. Paul Mason is a fifty-one year old model posing for selfies dressed as the most stylish Santa we have ever seen. To make things even better, it’s all for a good cause. Every selfie taken with Paul Mason will raise funds for the Hospital for Sick Children, a Canadian charity. Wearing his festive designer clothing, he is described on the Yorkdale website as ‘his crisp white beard, perfectly polished outfits and undeniable charm make him of our favourite things about the season…while you can’t ad him to your Christmas list this season, he is always up for a selfie!”. For each picture with the hashtage YorkdaleFashionSanat, the mall will donate $1 to the foundation. Fashion Santa, as he is so named, favours Burberry topcoats, Givenchy trainers and cashmere Salvatore Ferragamo scarves. Definitely beats an itchy hat. Mason has been a model for thirty years and thought of the idea two years ago when he grew a beard that bared a stark resemblance to old Saint Nick. Though he may not wear the same outfit twice, and they are impeccable outfits at that, the differences between him and Santa end there, as they both share their huge generosity and desire to spread Christmas cheer.
