Brilliant Brighton’s Christmas lights are due to be switched on in just two weeks time, lighting up the city for another festive period. Exactly 517 local businesses have contributed £75’000 collectively, to ensure that this year’s lights are “bigger, better, and more festive than ever”.
The lights will be switched on in East Street on 15th November, with a festive street party running from 4.30pm-6.30pm. Attendees can expect large crowds, a magnificent local choir, Christmas tunes and a show from Brighton performers. Back by popular demand, the return of Brightons “ding dong lights” will feature again this year, alongside other illuminated festive slogans such as “Ho Ho Ho” and “Snow”.
Organisers have not yet confirmed who will perform at the switch on, with rumours it may be kept a surprise until the very last day. However, the event will be hosted by Brighton’s most popular radio station Capital Brighton’s presenters, meaning a potential celebrity guest may be on the cards for this year’s switch on!

A spokesperson for Brilliant Brighton, Gavin Stewart, has said there will be a free prize giveaway from local businesses in the city centre.
Bargain hunters can also expect many businesses in Brighton including in East Street, North Street and Western Road to stay open later on the 15th, offering exclusive discounts for those Christmas shoppers hoping to get their gifts early this year.
Late night shopping is also making a return for the festive season, with most Brighton shops staying open until 8pm on Thursday 29th November, and Thursday 13th December.
The Christmas lights switch on is a wonderful community event, one that local Brighton resident described as an “exciting warm up to Christmas time”. Those who wish to travel into the city from outside Brighton can ensure that trains are expected to be running as normal.
