It’s that time of the week again, Monday is upon us and it’s more than expected to have a pinch of the Monday blues. But fear not, the week is just starting which, in Brighton at least, means there are plenty of events yet to come. If music’s your thing, read on because we’re back with our top picks of gigs of the week!

Monday – Willy Mason @ The Prince Albert

Local Brighton watering hole, The Prince Albert, will be playing host tonight to singer-songwriter from across the pond, Willy Mason. Bringing his blend of folk, blues and country to Brighton’s shore, this gig is sure to get your week off to a great start. Having collaborated with some big names in the music world such as, Lianne La Havas, Jamie Woon, and even The Chemical Brothers, you can expect high quality music in an intimate venue tonight.

Tuesday – Bloom @ The Green Door Store

Welcoming up and coming Brighton based band, Bloom, on Tuesday night is the much loved Green Door Store. Described as “vibrant, dynamic indie pop” and “the best of 80s-laced art pop”, they’re sure to lift your spirits for the week ahead. In fact, in their own words they describe themselves as making “alternative, life affirming, wizard pop”. If upbeat, retro, indie-type bops are your thing, then make sure you don’t miss out on this unique band’s Brighton showcase!

Wednesday – Horace Andy @ Komedia

Bringing a piece of sun to Brighton this Wednesday is iconic roots reggae singer-songwriter, Horace Andy. Known for his distinctive vocals and several hit songs, including one with iconic English trip hop duo, Massive Attack, the performer will be blessing Komedia with his unique sound. One of the most respected and influential singers in Jamaica, if you’re a reggae fan, or simply like good music, be sure not to miss out on Andy’s unique sound this hump day.

Thursday – Sunn O))) @ Concorde 2

The American experimental rock band hailing from Seattle will be shaking Concorde 2 this Thursday night. Having formed in 1998, Sunn O))) have already made a name for themselves. This gig isn’t for the fainthearted as they’re known for their extremely heavy sound that blends a variety of diverse genres, included but not limited to: drone, doom metal, black metal, dark ambient and noise rock. So if you choose to go be prepared for a very loud performance.

Friday – Absolute Bowie @ Concorde 2

If you’re a Bowie fan then what better way to bring on the weekend than with a David Bowie tribute band? Referring to themselves as “Europe’s finest tribute to David Bowie”, Absolute Bowie will be taking over Concorde 2 this Friday, bringing you classic hit after classic hit. Having toured all over Europe for the past 8 years, you’ll be taken on a journey through Bowie’s different personas, from Ziggy Stardust to The Thin White Duke and on past the 80s.

Saturday – P Money @ Coalition

English Grime MC, P Money, will be livening up your Saturday night should you head to Coalition this weekend. The Lewisham-born artist has made a name for himself with his energetic live performances as well as songs such as ‘Slang Like This’ and ‘Round The Clock’. Despite being known mostly for his grime, he’s also active in the dubstep scene, so expect a lively performance that’ll rock Coalition this Saturday night…

Sunday – Birdeatsbaby & More @ The Green Door Store

Brighton based alternative, ‘indie noir’ band, Birdeatsbaby will be hailing in the end of the weekend at The Green Door Store this Sunday night. With music as unusual as their name, you can expect a stadium-rock ambience with orchestral layers and intricate arrangements. The band likens their sound to icons such as Muse, Kate Bush, Evanescence and even Marilyn Manson. The band will be supported by other up and coming groups such as: Healthy Junkies, Skinsitive, friars lantern and IAMWARFACE.
