Sad news today as it has been announced that Shakedown Festival will not be taking place this year. In a statement on Facebook Steve Jones, the organiser, said “I first started planning Shakedown back in 2009, and after 7 long years it’s time to finally call it a day…I want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone that has helped in some way with Shakedown over the years. Honestly I would have loved to involve even more of the talented passionate people.” The festival was recently met with some opposition as residents put a petition to the Brighton & Hove City Council’s Economic Development and Cultural Committee because of concerns about its impact on the environment.

However, it’s not all bad news because although Stanmer Park won’t be hosting Shakedown Festival this year, they will be hosting a brand new festival, Boundary Brighton, this September. No acts are announced yet but it promises to host international DJs and live acts across four stages playing dub, techno, drum ‘n’ bass, jazz, and house. The festival has joined forces with The Arch, Patterns, Concorde 2 and the Victorian bandstand.

Organisers said “If you enjoy the sounds of Barcelona and Ibiza mixed with a large dose of insanity, outrageous performers, confetti filled air and crowd surfing chickens – you’ll love the fiesta taking place at The Arch stage. Patterns, better known for its intimate dancefloor and impeccable sound system, are providing an underground, edge with deeper, leftfield sounds. The organisers will reveal more as the stage is created in their workshop. If a big stage and big sounds is more your style, then the Concorde 2 stage will have your hands in the air all day, with a beautiful façade and a personal feel not normally found on a main stage. And last but not least, their Victorian bandstand – perched on a hilltop overlooking the rest of the festival will bring a really different flavour, with a fun line up that will keep you smiling and dancing all day.” The festival will run from midday until 10pm on Saturday, September 17th. The line-up and tickets are released on April 26th so keep your eyes peeled. You can sign up for pre-sale tickets at their website.
