“I really admire our young people for leading the way in raising awareness”
Today (21st of June 2019) young people in Brighton and Hove are marching again, to raise awareness of the climate change emergency. They are demanding that the government take action on climate change. This is their fifth strike, and they say “We will not stop until we have climate justice for all!” The demonstration will be taking place across the world.
Councillor Nancy Platts has invited young people in Brighton to talk to her, and will be arranging meetings over the summer months. She has said:
“The climate emergency is the biggest challenge facing our planet.
“I really admire our young people for leading the way in raising awareness and trying to tackle it.
“I would simply ask everyone taking part to listen to police safety advice and take care of one another during the demonstration.
“I want to hear directly from young people about what they feel the council needs to do so I can make it happen. We’re setting up a new City Assembly to drive how we become a carbon neutral city by 2030. Young people need to be at the heart of our thinking.”
