| As the city counts down to Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, 10 lucky residents and their guests are looking forward to being part of the action after winning match tickets in an exclusive prize draw.
The winners were nominated for the draw following an appeal by the council to find worthy recipients for the coveted tickets – people who have inspired others, overcome challenges or made a difference to the lives of those around them. Former Brighton & Hove Albion players Maria Thorisdottir and Guro Bergsvand drew names out of a hat giving 10 lucky residents a pair of tickets each to Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 matches. The winners, who included charity workers, carers, volunteers and rising rugby stars, were delighted to win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see world class women’s rugby on their doorstep. They include Molly Field, a volunteer at the Moulsecoomb Forest Garden and Wildlife Project, a small community garden charity supporting people with learning disabilities. Molly, who has cerebral visual impairment (CVI), is described as “a brilliant advocate for people with similar disabilities”, writing regular blogs to raise awareness to promote understanding of CVI. “It was great to have been nominated for the rugby tickets, as this sort of thing hasn’t ever happened to me before,” said Molly. “It was so nice to know people recognise that what I do makes a difference. It reminds me how worthwhile my work is. I’m really looking forward to the Ireland vs New Zealand match and hope it’s an exciting game!” Each winner received a pair of tickets to watch either England vs Australia or Ireland vs New Zealand at Brighton & Hove Albion Stadium in September. Council leader Bella Sankey said: “With such high demand for the Brighton & Hove matches, we wanted to make sure that our complimentary tickets went to residents who truly deserved a place in the crowd. “We were delighted with the response and the heartwarming stories of the lucky nominees. I hope Molly and her fellow winners will treasure every moment of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of such a prestigious world class sporting event.” Thousands of tickets for the matches have already been snapped up, with rugby fans from all four teams not wanting to miss the opportunity.
