Queens Road was closed off last Friday after police discovered a man laying lifeless in the city centre.

Officers responded to a public report just after 6:30am of the body near the Clock Tower where police and ambulance crews converged at the location.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The street remained cordoned off by police as they continued their enquiries with officers remaining present and a black tent placed to protect any evidence.

In a statement to the public, police believed that while unexplained and inexplicably tragic there was not thought to be any suspicion at the present time.

No more information regarding his identity, cause of death or background prior to his passing were provided and are also not expected to be publicly announced or released by the police.

While there is no evidence, there remains a possibility that the incident could have some relation to Brighton’s current homelessness crisis which has continued to be an issue of note for much of the public over the last few weeks.

Road closures were believed to have been eased just before 9am with the police having investigated and concluding the nature of their investigation and essentially ruling out the need for further contemplation on the basis of current evidence.

Bus routes were however diverted with Queens Road and the Clock Tower Bus Stop being kept closed with roads also much quieter than usual in response to the incident.

With no noted suspicion and the public need still sufficing, the tent placed outside ‘Mr Leos’ barber shop was eventually removed not long after the police made their official statement, and the street was slowly returned back to normal.

Brighton and Hove Buses confirmed that by 9:30am that all their services had also returned to normal as all roads were reopened to full usage.
