Following its award-winning debut, Mid-Street Lab’s Spring Show: Time Is The Real Currency is set to return bigger and bolder from May 2 to June 1, 2025, with an exclusive two-week preview for Brighton’s art community.
As part of Brighton Fringe and Artists Open Houses, Mid-Street Lab is poised to take over the city’s contemporary art scene once again—perhaps even repeating the impossible by winning the Brighton Fringe Exhibition Award for the second year in a row.
This year’s exhibition reflects the overwhelming response to Mid-Street Lab’s open call, with over 50 applicants, 27 strong contenders, and a final selection of 25 exceptional artists. The curation bridges top scorers with emerging voices, ensuring a dynamic mix of high-quality contemporary art that remains true to Mid-Street Lab’s ethos: art for all.
The Jury Process: A Transparent Selection for a Standout Show
Mid-Street Lab prides itself on a rigorous, transparent selection process. Each artwork was evaluated on relevance, versatility, aesthetic quality, and impact, with scores ranging from 15.00 to 24.67. The final selection celebrates diverse mediums, fresh perspectives, and compelling narratives.
This year’s guest of honour is Jane Savage, alongside resident artists Natalia Jaffe, Broken Glass, Adam McEvoy, Rikki Tarascas, Diya Wen, Rachel Benjamin, and Ole Skauge. The lineup also features outstanding submissions from Asia Nowicki, Rod Mahony, Jessica C. Sheenan, Paige Ripley, Sam Williams, Callum Howatracy, Lily Beall, Jessie Astill, Ann Axworthy, and Fiona Szabo, as well as Bridging the Gap artists who push creative boundaries.
Beyond an Exhibition: A Citywide Artistic Movement
This year, Mid-Street Lab is not just showcasing art—it’s mobilizing a creative movement. With a growing community of artists, cultural influencers, and engaged audiences, the exhibition will be a rallying point for contemporary art lovers from Brighton and beyond.
