Monday Motivation: Detox Tips

It’s the first day back to work after the New Year and I can’t be the only one who’s feeling a little bit worse for wear. The New Year always comes with a million and one different type of detox and diet plans so how do you know which one’s work, and if they do work which one is best for you? The truth is, a lot of ‘detox’ plans don’t really do much, the actual detoxing is done by your trusty liver, (which is probably not very trusting right now but it will forgive you) but there are things you can do to help it along.

Drink Tea: Cut down on caffeine and try some herbal tea to help move your detox along. Tea with lemon and ginger is perfect for aiding your new year detox as it is great for assisting digestion.

Drink More Water: Also an easy New Years’ Resolution, drinking more water will help you flush away toxins. If you find it difficult to drink water because it’s a bit boring, there are lots of fruit water recipes online that are full of nutrients.

Be Clever About Carbs: Cut down on “white carbs” and instead go for complex carbohydrates like sweet potatoes and whole-grains. Not only are they not refined or processed like white bread and pasta but they also maintain steady blood sugar levels.

Increase Your Fruit and Veg intake: Unfortunately, a chocolate orange does not count as one of your five a day outside the Christmas period and increasing your fruit and veg intake is easy to do and will make a massive difference.

Eat Regularly: One of the worst mistakes people can make when ‘detoxing’ is to drink a juice in the morning and then eat very little for the rest of the day which can make you crave the bad food your trying to avoid. Eating small portions regularly won’t put pressure on your digestive system, and will satisfy your cravings.

So there are some tips on helping your body detox after the heavy Christmas period. If you did want to try a ‘juice’, this one below will help you start your day off right. Once you drink this, eat breakfast and continue to eat normally. Have this juice every morning for five days and follow our tips above and you’ll be feeling back to your pre-Christmas self in no time.

300ml of coconut milk
1tsp of raw cacao powder
1 tsp of pumpkin seeds
1 tablespoon of ground almonds
¼ tsp of spirulina powder
2 tsp of sugar-free honey
