North West is already way more influential than all of us will ever be. I say this because it was announced this week that Balmain are launching their first kids’ clothing line in the summer, with Kim and Kanye West’s daughter is the main inspiration behind the line.
The designer of the range, Olivier Rousteing told Bustle ‘I think I first thought about designing kidswear when I dressed North…I had a conversation with Kim, and that was the beginning of how I really understood that the Balmain universe can also belong to kids. When you see the Balmain children’s pieces, you can see the references that are actually part of the Balmain women’s and men’s wardrobes. Balmain is also about diversity, and I think that the casting and the pictures show that no matter where you come from, the Balmain army is open and all the kids from the world are a part of it.’
The collection will include fifty-five pieces, and has already made its first appearance online on Rousteing and the official Balmain Instagram account. The images contain very well dressed children in an array of clothing, from double-breasted jackets to heavy duty shoewear. Rousteing said ‘These are the same looks that, over the years, moms and dads have repeatedly pleased with me to produce for their kids’. With some items clearly inspired by what we’ve been seeing on the catwalks recently, Balmain have achieved what they set out to do. The fashion line will launch in June at Balmain boutiques, as well as online at blamain.com. The clothing will be for children aged between six and fourteen but it will cost you a small fortune to dress your child in one of the most talked about fashion brands of the moment. It’s reported that the range will cost between €190 and €5500. Ouch. Check out some of the collection below.
