There’s only one day a year where it’s acceptable to get drunk before midday and roll yourself in green paint, and it’s coming on fast! The time has come to dig out your ‘kiss me, I’m Irish’ shirt, don a shamrock, and party on down with a Guinness in each hand.

There’s plenty of Irish hospitality on offer throughout Brighton and Hove this week, so here are our picks for one of the rowdiest days in the UK calendar.

Relaxed Drinks – JW Lennon’s

This quirky Irish-American alehouse is the ideal place to get the ball rolling for a craic-ing weekend. Beware – pop in for a couple of drinks and you’re likely to stay the night!  That wouldn’t be so bad – the night will be ditching gaudy hats and green glitter in favour of traditional Irish folk music.

Molly Malones

Rowdiest party – Molly Malone’s

The party at West Street’s infamous Irish pub will be jumping from midday until 4 am, with live music taking you from day into night. There will also be Irish dancers and face painters from 5 pm to get you feeling truly festive. The Irish hospitality doesn’t stop there – the bar is also giving away a £100 tab to one lucky party animal with the luck of the Irish on their side.

Traditional Irish Fare – The Globe

Sussex University’s only off-campus pub will be whipping up an array of delectable delicacies in honour of St. Patrick, including a traditional Irish roast dinner. Bailey’s and drinks deals will also be flowing until the early hours, so come for the food and stay for the festivities.

Biggest bash – The Fiddler’s Elbow

If you thought St. Paddy’s was only for one day, think again! The party will be raging on at the Fiddler’s for 5 days, with live Irish music, Irish dancing, street parties, face painters, and stews/BBQs from the 16th to the 20th. So, if you just can’t wait until Friday to paint the town green, this is the place to be. A truly iconic party!
