Located within 5 metres of London Road train station and easily accessible from the Fiveways, Preston Park and the Viaduct area this place is brimming with business and its easy to see why. The Open House is: sophisticated, cultured and cool all at the same time. This place’s identity is very hip, very unique and importantly very Brighton.
The Open House is furnished tastefully and feels warm yet spacious. The oak fittings and leather sofas look great and that’s just the inside. The real selling point of this place is the wonderful garden area. It was done up a few years ago and has been full of happy drinkers ever since. The garden is great not just in the sunshine but also during the evening, so even when the temperature drops heaters placed above all major seating areas keep you warmed. The heaters also conveniently come with a timer button so it’s up to your individual table as to how toasty you get.
The pub stocks a wide range of drinks from cheap lagers to fine champagnes and locally sourced ales. The Open House has its weekday happy hour(s) from 4-7 where a range of lagers, ciders and wines are reduced by up to a third (this also runs on Sundays from 6 till close!). Sunday eves are particularly fun as the pub quiz is very popular, David Potter the quiz master extroardinaire always puts on a great night with brilliant cash and stash prizes.
The food at The Open House is also something to rave about. Good quality pub food done very well. From Burgers, to Fish to Roast Dinners this place always guarantees to serve up some very high calibre pub grub. Prices could be considered a little high and food does sell out very quickly, sometimes without notice but that’s only because it’s so good!
Cool but classy, not so overly expensive one baulks at prices but sophisticated enough to convey a grand sense of sophistication. Definitely worth a try…
