Simply Red October 2020
Hot on the heels of their Hyde Park Radio 2 Live gig last weekend, Simply Red have just announced they will be play Brighton Centre in October next year as part of their Blue Eyed Soul 2020 tour.
Looking fresh in mirror shades and signature ringlet curls, Mick Hucknall wowed the sell out crowd at last Sunday’s sweltering Hyde Park gig. But it was the sound that took everyone by surprise, with Mick’s amazing soul voice proving that he could still cut it. Breezing through a set of golden summer classics including: “Fairground”, “ Holding Back the Years” and Money’s too tight to mention” Hucknall looked like an artist in his element. “It’s all about capturing the groove”, he said. “I want the crowds to get up and move around, and everybody to put their heart into it.”
Often outspoken in the past, Hucknall, who will celebrate his 60th birthday next June, has been very careful to rest his vocal chords during the day in order to keep his unique soulful voice strong, that has been admired by artists as diverse as Ed Sheeran and Miles Davis. Although he has a reputation as a 1990s party animal, things changed for Hucknall when he became a first time Dad in 2007. He decided to take time off and enjoyed the first ten years of his daughter’s life without gigging.
Now, back on the music scene and raring to go with the new “Blue Eyed Soul” album released in November, Hucknall is proud to be playing with the same Simply Red line up, who re-formed in 2003 and who will bring their muscular soul to Brighton Centre on 21st October next year.
