Sounds of Soviet Underground Brighton 2026 returns on 13 June 2026 — bringing Soviet-era rock, Red Wave classics and live post-punk energy to The Hope and Ruin.
The night runs from 7:30pm to 11pm. Tickets via Fatsoma.
What Is Sounds of Soviet Underground?
Soviet Underground is a London-based cover collective on a mission to revive the spirit of the Soviet-era underground music scene.
Their live shows recreate the sound of the Red Wave — the extraordinary moment when Western-influenced underground culture broke through the Iron Curtain and produced some of the most vital, strange and powerful rock music of the 20th century.
Bands like Kino, Nautilus Pompilius, Zoopark and Zvuki Mu became cult phenomena, shaping a generation while operating entirely outside official culture.
Soviet Underground brings that world to life with deep respect for the original aesthetic — post-punk edginess, vintage cold-wave textures and the particular weight of music made under pressure.
What to Expect on the Night
The setlist spans the breadth of the Red Wave — with live covers of iconic songs by Kino, Nautilus Pompilius, Zoopark and more.
In June 2025, Soviet Underground released their debut album of original material, inspired by the sound of these pioneering bands. Hearing those tracks alongside the covers gives the live show a depth that goes beyond tribute.
Having already played Brighton in 2025, this return feels like a natural progression.
The Hope & Ruin feels like the natural setting for it.
Why This Show Matters
The Soviet underground rock scene remains one of the least documented chapters in modern music history — and one of the most compelling.
These were bands performing in apartments and basements, circulating recordings on tape, building a culture without access to studios, labels or official support.
Kino’s Viktor Tsoi became a defining cultural figure. Nautilus Pompilius went on to reach mass audiences after perestroika. Zvuki Mu found international recognition through figures like Brian Eno.
For anyone interested in the intersection of music, politics and underground culture, this is an evening worth exploring.
