‘Superheroes’ Needed to Keep Brighton Tidy

Brighton & Hove City Council is encouraging residents, businesses and community groups to get “tough on grime” and clean up the city’s litter hotspots.

They are calling for volunteers to help with series of ‘spring cleans’ taking place around Brighton this weekend.

A spokesperson for the council said: “costumes ( hi-vis jackets) and equipment (gloves litter pickers, brooms and sacks) will be provided for anyone wanting to help rid the city of unsightly rubbish.”

It’s all part of as part of the Great British Spring Clean – a superhero-themed national event organised by Keep Britain Tidy.

The national Great British Spring Clean event is being launched over the weekend of March 3 to March 5, with events in Brighton & Hove running throughout the month.

Cityclean staff are co-ordinating community clean ups all over Brighton.

They say they are happy for residents to arrange and run their own events, but can provide an member of staff to co-ordinate if needed.

The council will provide posters for communities and businesses to promote their spring cleans.

Councillor Gill Mitchell, chair of the Brighton and Hove’s Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee said: “It’s great to see communities coming together to join the Great British Spring Clean and help us tidy up their neighbourhoods.

“Not only are they improving the appearance of the city, they are also encouraging residents to take more care of their local environment too.”

The Great Bevendean Clear Up
