With the clocks going back this weekend, Brighton & Hove City Council is helping to promote safer roads this winter.
Road safety officers will be out during rush hour all next week, speaking to cyclists about being bright and being seen during the darker evenings.
They’ll be handing out some temporary lights, hi-vis rucksack covers and stickers, as well as giving out road safety advice.
The council is also asking drivers to take extra care and reminding pedestrians they may be harder to spot. Sussex Police officers will also be encouraging drivers to get their eyesight checked.
Council officers will be out and about from around 4:45pm until 6:30pm:
- Monday 27 October – St Peter’s Church area
- Tuesday 28 October – Church Road, Hove near Grand Avenue
- Wednesday 29 October – Preston Park South
- Thursday 30 October – The Highway junction with Lewes Road
- Friday 31 October – Aquarium junction near Madeira Drive

Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet member for Transport and City Infrastructure, said: “The darker days means more of our journeys are made in low light, with poorer visibility, so it’s important we all take steps to be bright and be seen.
“With the clocks going back, why not use the extra hour to check your bike lights are working and make sure you have the hi-vis and reflective items you need for cycling?
“Whether you’re travelling on foot, two wheels or four, it’s important we all look out for one another and keep each other safe this winter.”
