ADD A DATE TO YOUR DIARY TO SEE IT THIS AUGUST – WHO WILL YOU SEE?

Devonshire Park Theatre NOW until Saturday 30 August

The people have spoken, and critics and audiences have high praise for the biggest summer show at the Devonshire Park Theatre, as The Play What I Wrote which opened last week running until 30 August, brings the sunshine whatever the weather.

Joining Eastbourne favourite Ben Roddy (as Ben), Daniel Crowder (as Dan) and Marc Pickering (as Arthur) will be one special star guest at each performance of this acclaimed comedy play. This week national treasure and sit-com legend Sue Holderness joined the cast! Having played the significant cameo part previously in the ‘glittering West End’ production and UK Tour, Sue bought her fantastic comic timing and acting prowess to the role in Eastbourne, to the great delight of the audiences who’ve seen her so far…

“Sue captured the spirit perfectly and allowed herself to be sent up by gags at her expense!” Bournefree Magazine

“The appearance of surprise guest, Sue Holderness, was a perfect fit – her appearance added an extra sparkle to the production. She thoroughly embraced the opportunity to be part of one of Daniel’s plays!” Audience member

You see, ‘Dan’ has written a play, set in the French Revolution called ‘A Tight Squeeze for the Scarlet Pimple,’ ‘Ben’ on the other hand, wants to continue with their double-act. He believes that if they perform a tribute to the legendary comic duo Morecambe and Wise, Dan’s confidence in their partnership will be restored and the double-act will go on.  But first they need a guest star to appear in the play what ‘Dan’ wrote…

Film and TV actor Michael Praed, comic favourite Joe Pasquale and STEPS pop sensation turned West End star Lee Latchford-Evans, are also waiting in the wings, ready to make surprise appearances throughout the run. The acting style of each star brings their own individual comedic effects to the play, meaning this is a show you can see again and again!

Do you need to know who Morecambe & Wise are? It may aid the nostalgia, but the production and delivery are funny regardless. A story that cleverly pulls together a series of laugh-out-loud sketches, audiences are raving the show has “a generous helping of laughter and good old-fashioned variety-style entertainment” full of “impeccable comic timing and inventive one-liners” Well worth a night-out at the theatre!

Tomfoolery and laughs’ a plenty guaranteed. Written by Hamish McColl, Sean Foley and Eddie Braben, directed by Chris Jordan designed by Julie Godfrey with music by Rob Cousins.

The Play What I Wrote runs at Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park Theatre until Saturday 30 August, nightly performances Tuesday to Saturday at 7.45pm, with Wednesday and Saturday 2.30pm matinees each week (no performances Monday or Sunday). Book now at Eastbourne theatres.co.uk or call  01323 412000.
