It’s well known that Brighton and Hove is a hot-bed of incredible new talent and there is a new radio station that wants to celebrate this. Resonance Extra started broadcasting in December 2015 and is transmitting twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, focusing on new music, sound art and experimentation. The radio station, Resonance FM has been broadcasting in London for the past thirteen years, and this Brighton and Hove station is the first venture outside the capital.

Peter Lanceley, Programmer of Resonance Extra told The Argus that they hoped it was a chance for the station “to branch out and produce more grassroots content. We are really excited to have the artistic focus in a vibrant city like Brighton and Hove with its brilliant emerging artists. You have two universities and thriving arts scene so it seems like the perfect place for new young talent”. Peter Lanceley is a University of Sussex graduate and has said that he is “thrilled to get this unique and exciting project off the ground and to bring innovative sounds from around the globe to a city renowned for its new music”.

Resonance is supported by donations from listeners and partners, such as Arts Council England. The Brighton and Hove team are calling for any producers, broadcasters, students, and musicians who would like to get involved to help produce shows and “challenge the traditional conception of what radio is”. Brighton and Hove has many fantastic Brighton based radio stations, such as Radio Reverb, Radio Free Brighton, 1 Brighton FM and of course, Juice FM. Brighton and Hove Radio chairman Daniel Nathan has told The Argus “It’s very exciting that the technology we developed and tested here in Brighton is opening up the airwaves to radical innovation and experimentation of the kind we will enjoy from Resonance Extra.”

You can listen to Resonance Extra via Small Scale DAB in Brighton and Hove, Radioplayer, TuneIn and online here. You can find out more about getting involved by going to their website.
