With the temperatures soaring up really quickly every day at the moment, we probably all start to struggle with the heat. Making sure to drink enough water and not to stay out in the sizzling sun for too long, we basically just try to stay cool.
But while we can close the window blinds, grab a refreshing drink from the fridge or sit down in front of the fan, there is someone else who is suffering from the heat just as much as we do! Dogs and cats alike get just affected as ourselves by the heat. Here are a few tips every pet owner should keep in mind for his furry friend’s sake!

Heated cars are not a dog-friendly place!
You don’t want to end up like this guy who got arrested in Chichester yesterday after having left his dog in his car for hours! You know what it feels like getting into your car after it has been parked in the sun for some time. It’s almost like getting into an oven! That’s not the environment you want your dog to be in, no matter how long for! If you go out in the car, leave them at home. They are far better there!

Water, water, water!
Sure that you can’t be around all day long to make sure your four-legged friend is okay. But if you leave them at home, make sure you provide enough fresh water for them. If you only have a small water bowl for them, it might be a good idea to put up a second one. You could always be gone for longer than you initially intended!

Enjoying early morning coolness!
Even with temperatures like this, dogs and cats still need to get out at some point. Do them and yourself a favour and avoid taking or letting them out in the heat at high noon. Get up early and take them for a walk and let them stroll around in the early mornings and late nights when it’s still cooler or at least starting to cool down.

Get the bucket out!
If it is really hot in your home and you get the impression that your beloved pet is not coping well with the heat, there is only one thing to do. Cool them down! It might not be the most favorable thing to do for a cat, but your dog will love you for taking him out into the garden and empty a bucket of cold water on its back. If you don’t have a garden, you can run them a cool bath. Either way, it will do them good!
