I met up with Bebe to discuss how she started on her journey into hair and makeup, she gave us some great tips and tricks that I just had to share with you all..
Hi Bebe! What compelled you into wanting to become a make up artist? After graduating from an Art college with a Fashion Design diploma, I started working in retail to start paying off my student loan. What was supposed to be a couple of years in retail became over ten years in a career that I wasn’t really happy with. I longed to do something creative and I was always interested in makeup and hair so I quit my job and decided to attend a private course to pursue my dream of becoming a Makeup Artist.
What do you love most about make up? No matter what you done the night before or what you feel like when you wake up in the morning, you can always look completely normal or half decent with a little help of makeup.
What is the best beauty tip that you think every woman should know? Always hydrate your skin with moisturiser and night cream or eye cream.
What is the most common beauty mistake that a woman can make? Less is more, don’t over do it with heavy foundation and always match your colour.
Who would be your ideal celebrity to work with? Adele would be a perfect celebrity for me to work for, not only is she a great singer/songwriter and looks absolutely gorgeous with a bit of makeup on, she seems so lovely and a laugh as well. I would have so much fun just chatting away…
If we took a peek inside your make up kit what would we find? Eve Lom Moisturiser, Nars Sheer-glow foundation, Laura Mercier Eye shadow Palette, Nars Audacious Mascara, Nudestix brow pencil, Laura Mercier Baked powder Bronzer, By Terry Touch Expert concealer, Mac Lipstick in Velvet Teddy.
What sets you apart from other make up artists? Most Makeup Artists I know and have worked with are all passionate about what they do and are all very hard working. I like to think of myself as just as hardworking and passionate about my work but I really enjoy getting to know my clients and hopefully not only have I given them a fabulous makeover but helped them feel really good about themselves too!
If you could give one piece of advice to an aspiring make up artist, what would it be? Never give up and keep trying, even when things are hard, challenge yourself and keep learning and improving.
What make up artist inspires you and your work? I love Alex Box, her imagination and creativity is beyond anything I’m capable of. I also love Lisa Eldridges’ beauty makeup work.
What is the make up and beauty scene like in Brighton? I think Brighton has a unique and original beauty and fashion scene. I often see people rocking out their styles through fashion and makeup in the streets of Brighton.
Reader question – What is your best advice for hiding dark circles? Plenty of sleep! However you can use light concealer (heavy concealer will only crease more lines and look dry and thick) and then lightly apply translucent powder to set the area.
Reader question – What is the main make up game changer? For me it’s been Highlighter, I just love the way it gives that glow and shimmer.
Thank you so much for your time Bebe, and good luck with everything at Makeup Studio, I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from you soon! Thanks Kerry!
