Niclosamide belongs to the anthelmintic class of medicines. Anthelmintics are drugs that cure worm infestations.

Niclosamide is a medication that is used to treat infections caused by broad or fish tapeworms, dwarf tapeworms, and cattle tapeworms. If your doctor prescribes it, niclosamide may also be used to treat other tapeworm infections. It has no impact on other types of worm infestations (for example, pinworms or roundworms).

When tapeworms are touched, niclosamide destroys them. The disintegrated worms are then transported via the stool. However, since they are infrequently expelled in the intestine, you may not notice them.

Niclosamide may only be obtained with a doctor’s prescription.
