Local homelessness charity Sussex Emmaus is appealing for volunteers passionate about sustainable fashion to help at its new vintage and second-hand clothing store which opened this month.
Based in the heart of Brighton, Outfit London Road is the newest social enterprise run by Sussex Emmaus and is set to replicate the success of its well-known sister store, Outfit at Emmaus, which is in a 1930s chapel in Portslade village. Outfit at Emmaus attracts charity shop lovers, fashion bloggers and social media influencers from around the country, thanks to its carefully curated offering of quality second-hand and vintage clothing. The charity aims to recreate the magic of Outfit at Emmaus for its new city centre location, giving even more people the opportunity to grab a bargain and shop sustainably.
To help ensure the success of its new store, Sussex Emmaus is looking for new volunteers passionate about sustainable fashion and eager to support a local homelessness charity. Volunteer tasks include helping front-of-house in the store, welcoming and assisting customers, researching brands online, and sorting and preparing unique second-hand and vintage stock. No previous experience is necessary as full training will be provided by Sussex Emmaus, giving volunteers the opportunity to gain skills in sales, customer service, visual merchandising and teamwork.
Joel Lewis, Retail Manager at Sussex Emmaus, said:
“All our volunteers are extremely important to us and we’re excited to welcome new people to our team, whether they’re fashion enthusiasts, charity shop lovers, or someone who simply wants to support a worthy cause.
“We manage a wealth of interesting vintage and second-hand stock which changes from week to week. Not only will our Outfit London Road volunteers get the opportunity to help prepare a treasure trove of beautiful bargains and high-end designs, but they will also get to work within a friendly team in our new fashion-forward city centre location.”
Since 1997, Sussex Emmaus has supported people out of homelessness by providing a stable home for as long as someone needs it, a sense of belonging and the opportunity to learn new skills by working in a social enterprise. All proceeds from sales at Outfit London Road will go directly towards the charity’s support offer, making a tangible difference in the lives of those working to rebuild their lives.
London Outfit Road is now open from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm at 71 London Road, Brighton, BN1 4JE.
