Waterstones has announced the official opening date of its new bookshop in Hove.
The new branch will be one of two that will open in Sussex. Rustington Waterstones opened on the 26th of October. Waterstones will now have thirteen stores in the Sussex area.
The new store will be at 90-91 George Street, which was previously the home of Clinton Cards. The launch will be on Saturday 9th November at 9AM, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to take place at 11AM.
Brighton’s Rosy Carrick – playwright, poet and co-curator of the Port Eliot Poetry Stage – is set to join the staff at the launch.
Campaigners who have wanted to revamp the area believe the new addition is a big step forward.
Emma Dalton, founder of the Save George Street campaign, said:
“I think it’s amazing. As a community we’ve been working so hard to improve the street, the look and feel of it. To have such a big and well-known store come to us is great.”
The new manager of the Hove store, Sam Noonan, said:
“It’s particularly exciting to be located on George Street which is such a vital part of the community.
“Above all, both bookshop teams are keen to make everyone feel extremely welcome and we can’t wait to share our passion for books with them.”
The shop will be run by a team of six employees. It will stock stationery and gifts as well as bespoke books.
