Although you may think the kitchen is the heart of the home, you’d be forgetting about probably one of the most crucial features in your house – the boiler. It helps keep your life running smoothly, from the showers you have on a morning to the warmth you can cosy down with on a cold winters day. While the average life of a boiler is anywhere between 10 and 15 years, that’s only true if you take care of it and maintain it each year. The older and less cared for your boiler is, the more likely it is to experience numerous problems that can occur when you least expect it!
Care plan company Hometree, recently found that on average, upgrading our boiler systems are one of the lowest concerns for those living in the UK when compared to updating tech such as white goods, entertainment systems and even smart devices.
But why are us brits avoiding taking our boiler care seriously, and have other things become much more of a priority to us?
Rise in demand in smart tech
How many times have you gone to upgrade your mobile even though it’s in good condition? Have you ever swapped out your own smart speaker (Amazon Echo, Sonos, Google Home etc.) for a newer model just because you wanted the latest version?
With many of us more interested, and happy to, have the shiniest new model of something, it seems that the products we’d really need to maintain and keep on top of are coming in at the bottom of the pile. Among the findings from Hometree were that 79% of those surveyed were annoyed to have to upgrade their boiler, while 40% of us would be more than happy to upgrade our smart speaker, even if it’s in a good working order.
Have we become so fixated on having the latest technology that we’d rather that than make sure our homes are heated sufficiently?
Take advantage of a green initiative
With the government wanting households to become much greener, now is the time to see if you’re eligible for a green home grant. If you’re wanting to make improvements, why not take advantage of schemes such as this. They’ll help you save money and also help work towards doing your bit for the environment where you can.
There are a number of things you could improve with the grant such as:
Insulation
Low carbon heat such as an air source pump
Windows and doors
Heating controls
If you are successful in your application the cost also covers the labour, materials and even the VAT.
What does the future of home heating look like?
Now is the time to invest and future proof your heating. Upgrading to a green energy system like an air source or ground source heat pump, can both help save the planet and you some money too.
Having a system that suits your home is important too, as heating is not a one size fits all solution. With many homes now having very different requirements, it might be worth having an engineer take a look at your property. They’ll be able to recommend the right heating system for you, as well as look to fit a smart system, which would allow you to control your homes temperature, even when you’re not there!
No matter what upgrades you want to make, now is the time to think and look towards the future. Apply for a grant, upgrade your heating and save yourself cash in the process.
Every good home should consider an air source heat pump but there are lots of factors that should be taken care of before going for installing one. Compared to an electric energy device; an air source heat pump is able to deliver 3 times more efficient energy. You can look into the heat pump glossary for more information.
