There’s not many things better for clearing your mind than a good getaway to some sun, sea and sand.Brits have started to get back into the swing of things when it comes to holidays in 2022, after two years of COVID-related delays and cancellations.

While those headaches have now hopefully passed for good, common stresses when it comes to a holiday can be the anxiety brought on by low body confidence.

In fact, a study from lingerie and swimwear experts Hunkemöller found that 11.6 million Brits admitted that ‘swimwear season’ left them with feelings of self-consciousness.

Younger generations are more likely to be affected too. A significant 87% of Gen-Z respondents said they were likely to put pressure on themselves to be “bikini ready” and would change their habits as summer approaches to achieve this.

Hunkemöller’s global head of design Patricia Beurskens said: “We are huge believers that being confident in your own skin is so much more than aesthetics. Having lumps and bumps is completely normal, despite what social media might have you believe.

“For those who need a little extra confidence boost, then opting for clothing that makes you feel amazing can be a huge nudge in the right direction too.”

But what are some of those ways in which we can be our most confident selves while on the beach? Let’s take a look.

Make a plan

Many of our hang-ups are based on things we perceive but don’t know. This uncertainty can stem from all forms of life, so tackling that head on can keep the blues at bay while you’re away.

Make a rough plan of what you’re going to be doing each day and pick the wardrobe to match. If you’re going hiking in the hills, the bikini can probably stay in your suitcase for one day.

Pack for YOU

In Hunkemöller’s study, 78% of those polled said they would feel uncomfortable in a thong-style bikini, while just a quarter of men surveyed would feel good while wearing small swimming trunks.

No matter how many people you see dressed in this way, it’s so, so important that you forget trends and prioritise your comfort and confidence above all else.

Practise self-care

Taking a holiday is already a great step towards your self-care routine. But don’t leave your other methods at home when it comes to building your confidence.

Journalling, affirmations, discovering new things, meditation. You should have even more time in your day than usual to focus on yourself so make sure you keep on top of this.

Some tips from the experts

When it comes to swimwear, there is a truly head-spinning amount of variety. These top tips from Hunkemöller’s experts are designed to boost your holiday confidence…

  1. A one-piece or high-waisted biking bottoms can provide support in the tummy area.
  2. A floaty sarong or beach dress adds chic modesty without leaving you to overheat.
  3. To accentuate your legs, opt for swimwear with a high cut.
  4. Bandeau tops are ideal for emphasizing the shoulder area and providing an hourglass figure.
  5. A peachy bum or voluptuous chest can be achieved with ruffled swimwear.
