A warm, busy weekend ahead across the city — from whisky tastings to drum and bass after-parties, here’s what’s actually worth your time this Friday to Sunday.
Friday 26 June
Start at The Old Market in Hove, where keyboardist and producer Yoni Mayraz brings a blend of jazz and club culture to the venue from 7pm. If you’re more in the mood for a pub crawl with a soundtrack, Everywhere At Once is running a citywide weekender across several venues tonight — catch it at The Prince Albert from 8pm, The Folklore Rooms for a late one from 8:30pm, or Quarters with Audio Active x Steeze Factory from 6:30pm if you want something with more bass.
Football fans should head to Chalk for England v Panama, kicking off alongside a Britpop-flavoured “Noasis” tribute night — a solid combination if you want the match on a big screen with a party atmosphere either side of it.
Saturday 27 June
Whisky lovers, this one’s for you — Brighton Whisky Weekend lands at venues across the city, with the main expo at The Old Market running midday to 7pm. Expect tastings from across the industry alongside the usual seafront crowd.
For gigs, The Green Door Store has City Dog on, while punk veterans Johnny Moped play The Prince Albert from early afternoon. If you fancy something further out, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performs at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill — a proper night out if you’re happy to hop on the train.
Later in the evening, Volks Club hosts a drum and bass after-party with Slipmatt, running from 9pm for anyone wanting to keep the night going.
Sunday 28 June
Things turn a little more wholesome on Sunday. The Old Market hosts Project Female’s end-of-year dance showcase from 3:30pm — limited availability, so book ahead if you’ve got family or friends performing or just fancy a proper local show. Outdoors, BITE Brighton Oyster Festival wraps up its run this weekend, a fresh addition to the city’s food calendar worth catching before it closes.
If you’d rather keep things low-key, Sunday’s a good day for a long pub lunch — the seafront and Preston Street venues are reliably busy with roast crowds heading into the evening.
This weekend has a nice spread without anything dominating — whisky on Saturday, a proper gig or two most nights, and enough going on citywide with Everywhere At Once that you can build your own bar crawl around it rather than committing to one big-ticket event. Worth checking individual venue socials for last-minute door times, since several of these (particularly the Everywhere At Once stops) are independently ticketed by venue.
