Yes, that is correct, this weekend does in fact see us enter into the month of September! I know, how did that happen?! But although the summer may officially be coming to an end, temperatures in Brighton this weekend are expected to become warmer, which means that the summer fun doesn’t have to end just yet!

There are some amazing events happening across our city this weekend, and as usual we have put together a carefully selected list so that you don’t have to!

Slam Dunk – Basket Ball Fun @ Brighton Marina – Friday 31st August  

Join the Force Community Basketball Club this Friday daytime at the Brighton Marina for hoop fun and multi skill basketball sessions! All ages and abilities are welcome at this free event!

With temperatures expected to increase, what better way to start the weekend than with a BBQ on the beach with some great tunes! If this sounds like something you’ll be longing for come tomorrow evening, come down to Yellowave Beach Sports this warm Friday evening, for BBQ grilled meat accompanied by music from local Sussex acoustic musician Jay Hunter – the evening is guaranteed to be chilled! Veggie options will also be available.

Family Fun Workshops: Selfie Sensation @ Phoenix Brighton – Saturday 1st September

This Saturday why not come to the Phoenix Brighton where you can make some props and create your super-selfie portrait, releasing the inner you! This entirely free event is suitable for families with children aged 5-14yrs. Drop-in and work as a family to explore different materials in these relaxed, fun workshops with Phoenix artists! All you need is your imagination and a willingness to get stuck in!

Sussex Gin Fest @ Directly next to the British Airways i360 – Saturday 1st September –  Sunday 2nd September

Sussex Gin Fest is Coming to Brighton! This ‘gintastic’ outdoor festival will take place on Brighton Promenade, next to the British Airways i360 this weekend! Supported by Brighton and Hove City Council, this exciting outdoor gin festival promises to be one of the hottest tickets in town this year. And what’s not to like; a wide range of locally distilled Sussex Gins waiting for you to try, delicious hot and cold food, captivating demonstrations on all things gin, the famous Brighton Arches with the best boutique shops in the city, all with a live programme of entertainment all day. To tempt you further, the weather forecast looks perfect for a cheeky gin & tonic!

Free Classic Car Show @Stamner House – Sunday 2nd September

Head down this Sunday to Stamner House where more than 100 Classic Cars will be showcased! From 10am-1pm see these classic cars on display and then enjoy live music in the garden/marquee from 12noon to 3pm, from The Stanmer House Band. This family-friendly event is welcome to all ( including dogs), and is definitely not an event to be missed for all car enthusiasts!

THE RAILWAY CHILDREN Performed @ Brighton Open Air Theatre (BOAT) – Sunday 2nd September

Attention passengers! Come along to the Brighton Open Air Theatre this Sunday and see Bobbie, Peter and Phyliss on Platform 1, as they pass the time sharing the classic tale of Edith Nesbit’s ‘The Railway Children’. See the trio make unexpected friends, solve the mystery of what happened to their father and meet a Russian immigrant who teaches them that compassion and understanding cross all boundaries. This event is recommended for ages 6+.
