2019 is a special year for the gay liberation movement, as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn riots in New York, one of the most important events in the LGBTQ+ fight to equality.
YMCA DownsLink Group (YMCA DLG) celebrated this special anniversary in style by designing a float recreating the Stonewall Inn, thanks to their design lead Andrew Cummings.
The vibrant and colourful float was a huge success with the crowd, especially when the song ‘YMCA’ started playing from the speakers.

This year marks 50 years since the Stonewall riots in New York – a pivotal event in the gay liberation movement, and our staff and young people worked hard to design a float that recognises the amazing contribution of the many people that have fought for equal rights.
