Happy December 1st! The official countdown to Christmas has begun and that means preparations have begun for everything from the Christmas dinner to your Christmas party wardrobe. This time of year we see an influx of social events, particularly ones that require a fair bit of dressing up. Bjournal are here to talk you through some of this years’ key party season trends.

Velvet: Velvet is a fabric that tends to make its comeback every party season. When worn right, it can be elegant and somehow quite festive. A black velvet dress is always a winner, but this season there are lots more opportunities to be more daring.

Metallic: Along with velvet, metallic is making an appearance this party season. You can either go subtle or all in, there’s not inbetween with metallic. If it’s a jacket or a skirt, team it with quieter colours such as navy or burgundy. For something even more subtle, find an item that has metallic threats running through them so you can layer and play with different textures and fabrics.

Glitter and sequins: Glitter accessories, sequins for clothes. Those are the rules. The best thing about a sequined dress is that you don’t have to do anything else to your outfit. A pair of simple, but nice, heels and subtle hair means you aren’t going completely overboard.

Bare legs: It sounds terrifying, I know, but nothing shows that you have your life together more than bare legs in the winter. I have always said to myself that ‘As long as Alexa Chung wears tights in the winter, I can wear tights in the winter’ but alas, she too has ditched the tights in favour of shiny bare legs. To make sure your legs look sleek and gorgeous as opposed to looking like pasty white chalk, Sally Hansen has a great spray tan range. Though don’t go too overboard, you want to be tanned enough so it looks like you had enough money to get away to some sun this year. If you really don’t think you can bare to go bare legged this year, maxi dresses and jumpsuits are your best friend.

Heels: Party season heels call for more intricate designs than your everyday heel. Sparkles, bows, fur pompoms and lace inserts all make an appearance this season. With a little black dress, you can let your shoes do the talking.
